Medical Director Appointed

Tidelands Community Hospice is pleased to announce the appointment of Lance A. Duvall, MD, PhD, CMD as their new Medical Director, effective December 16, 2007. He replaces Dr. Lynn Brook who has served as Tidelands Medical Director for the past 7 years. Marsha Hayes, Executive Director for Tidelands Community Hospice says, “Dr. Brook’s resignation, due to the needs of her private practice, ends one chapter in Tidelands Community Hospice. We are excited and pleased to welcome Dr. Duvall to our team as we open another chapter in our long history of caring for patients at the end of their lives.”

Dr. Duvall is a practicing Family Physician since 1979 with Waccamaw Family Practice. He is affiliated with the Georgetown Memorial Hospital and is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at the Medical University of SC in Charleston, SC. He received an undergraduate degree from Wayne State University in Detroit, MI in Physics; graduate degree in Physics from Clemson University, Clemson, SC; doctoral training at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, SC; and post-doctoral training in Family Practice at the Greenville Hospital System in Greenville, SC.

Dr. Lance Duvall has received numerous academic honors and professional certifications as well as being involved in many other medical organizations. Most recently, he was the Medical Director for the Georgetown Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. He has been published in The SC Family Physician, The Journal of the SC Medical Association, Southern Medical Journal, and the Journal of Family Practice. In addition, Dr. Duvall is professionally affiliated with the American Academy of Family Physicians, the SC Academy of Family Physicians, the SC Medical Association and the Georgetown County Medical Society, as well as several others.

As Medical Director for Tidelands, Dr. Duvall will be responsible for the medical component of Tidelands Hospice’s patient care program which includes home care patients as well as those who have been admitted to Hospice House. Marsha Hayes remarked, “Dr. Duvall is pleased to be associated with the area’s first in-patient facility because of the benefits it can provide to patients at the end of their lives.”

Dr. Duvall is married to Joanne and they have 2 sons, Alexander and Marcus. He resides in Georgetown and is an Elder in the Georgetown Presbyterian Church. His office is located at the Waccamaw Family Practice, 1075 North Fraser Street, Georgetown.
