Hospice Care Services for Georgetown, Horry, and Williamsburg Counties

Hospice Care
Tidelands Community Hospice’s care and services are available to all regardless of financial status or life situation. No one is ever turned away. Its hospice care involves a team-oriented approach combining medical care, pain and symptom management, and emotional, spiritual and social support expressly tailored to each patient’s and family’s needs and wishes. We provide the care, services, and support needed by our patients and families where they live, be it in their own home, a relative’s home, a nursing home, or an assisted-living facility.

Tidelands Community Hospice Bereavement Services are available to all adults and children in the community who are grieving the loss of a loved one, not just hospice families.

From inception to present:

Providing the highest standard of hospice care to patients and families, ensuring that all grieving adults and children in the communities served receive comfort and support, serving as a community resource on end-of-life issues, and continuing to strive to better meet the needs of the communities served are all as important today as they were to our founders over 30 years ago.

Hospice Care

Hospice care is compassionate care for terminally ill patients. We are dedicated to supporting the emotional and spiritual needs of each patient according to his or her wishes. Here at Tidelands Community Hospice, we see patients regardless of their diagnosis, age, race, nationality, physical capabilities, and/or reimbursement source.

Emotional Support

Emotional support is provided by our team of dedicated social workers. Its purpose is to educate families about patient care and to encourage realistic expectations and confidence around numerous complicated end-of-life issues. Our social workers also act as liaisons between families and a wide variety of relevant community resources.
Spiritual Support
Spiritual support is available for those confronting the hopes, uncertainties, and fears that typically accompany the end of this physical journey. At Tidelands Community Hospice, these delicate issues can be shared and explored openly. Our non-judgmental staff is prepared to address each patient's individual spiritual interests and the needs of his or her loved ones.
Personal Care
Additional practical support is provided by our hospice aides. Whether bathing patients, assisting with routine family activities, or providing timely respite for fatigued caregivers, our aides play key roles in the hospice experience.

How We Can Help

Tidelands Community Hospice’s care goes beyond the traditional hospice role. We recognize that the greatest loss is that of a loved one. It is a life changing event and coping with that loss is one of life’s biggest challenges. Grief is a natural response and is different for each person. It is an intense and complex journey.

Our Bereavement Services provide experienced team members, trained volunteers, and programs to help guide adults, children, and families through the healing process. Not only do we offer a range of bereavement support for anyone whose loved one was cared for by Tidelands Community Hospice, but we also support any adult, child, or adolescent in our service area who is experiencing grief.

Our Bereavement Services are funded through generous donations from the community, proceeds from fundraisers and are offered free of charge.

 Bereavement Support Services include:

  • For hospice families: Continuing support and comfort, up to thirteen (13) months, for surviving loved ones of patients through correspondences. When requested, staff schedule follow-up contact.
  • Monthly Support Groups & Workshops: Held in various locations and churches, are open, free of charge, to ALL adults, not just hospice families, in the community who are grieving.
  • Good Mourning Programs: Tailored for ALL children and adolescents in the community who are experiencing grief from one or more losses.
  • Grief Support in Schools, Workplaces, and the Community: Members of our qualified staff are available to assist in the event of the death of a student, teacher, or natural disaster. Informational seminars and training on grief and loss for schools, healthcare providers, and the general community are available.
  • Services of Remembrance and Memorial Gatherings: Offer an opportunity to ALL in our community, not just hospice families, to celebrate and remember loved ones who are no longer with us. During our Festival of Trees, a Tribute Trees and Candle Lighting Celebration is held providing support to families and friends remembering loved ones during the holiday season.
