We Honor Veterans

Tidelands Community Hospice is a proud partner of We Honor Veterans, a national project developed by the National Hospice & Palliative Care Organization in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs. According to the program, one in four dying Americans is a veteran. These men and women often carry experiences from their military service that present unique challenges at the end of life. The We Honor Veterans project gives our hospice staff the tools to best meet those unique challenges.

Veterans have unique needs, and we provide specialized support by addressing their physical, emotional, psychosocial and spiritual needs that may arise near the end of life. Our hospice team has been educated on how to identify and respond to the unique physical, psychosocial and spiritual needs of Veterans. Nurses know the physical needs of veterans, Social Workers help veterans and families access their veteran’s benefits, Spiritual Care is aware of the spiritual pain veterans may experience and veteran volunteers are available to share experiences.

Each veteran has a unique life story and a specific set of needs. Tidelands Community Hospice is committed to supporting veterans at the end of life.

We Honor Veterans Pinning Ceremony

Each veteran patient is offered a Pinning Ceremony. At the ceremony the patient is awarded a Certificate of Appreciation honoring their military service as well as a lapel pin and patriotic fleece blanket handmade by our very own volunteers.

Family, friends and Tidelands Community Hospice staff are encouraged to attend as we honor these special men and women in our community.
